Life Long Learning - Part 1 of 2...

(Taken from Article)

A Sikh is a lifelong student, forever striving to attaain spirituality for the betterment of his or her life here and after death. A Sikh endeavours to fathom the spiritual depth of the scriptures through the process of learning, reciting and singing Gurubani. For learning to take place, there needs to be a student and a teacher. In the Sikh faith, the Sikh is forever the student and the Guru the teacher and the Guru is 'One who leads us from darkness (ignorance) to light (Knowledge)'.

If a hundred moons were to rise, and a thousand suns appeared,
even with such light, there would still be pitch darkness without the Guru. 2

It is only when we have a willing Sikh, and a perfect Guru, that we will have perfect learning. As Sikhs already have the perfect teacher, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj, the eternal Guru, they need to partake of the knowledge given to them by the Gurus and strive to become good Sikhs...

Journey of the Spirit - Part 2 of 2...

(Taken from Article)

...The Sikh way of life is an opportunity to make spiritual progress. The path to spiritual progression shows us how to control emotional attachment, lust, rage, greed and ego. These can only be controlled through leading a life imbued with Simran (meditation), Seva (Service), Sangat (Congregation and Good Company), which leads ultimately to the stage of Sant (Saint) and Sipahi (Soldier). In the journey of life, there is an opportunity to uplift the spirit. This entails leading a life of complete submission to the will of God and wondering what we can do for the perfect Guru. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj gives us the direction of how to submit:

ikv sicAwrw hoeIAY ikv kUVY qutY pwil ]
kiv sachiaaraa hoeeai kiv koorrai thuttai paal
So how can you become truthful? And how can the veil of illusion be torn away?

O Nanak, it is written that you shall obey the Hukam of His Command, and walk in the Way of His Will. 1

Ultimately the Spirit is held accountable for deeds committed during its journey.

Journey of the Spirit - Part 1 of 2...

(Taken from Article)

The Sikh way of life is not one of asceticism but one that entails living in the world. The Gurus gave the Sikhs a legacy and an example of how it was possible to engage in the practice of everyday life whilst at the same time attaining spiritual progress. The quest for a Sikh is to live a decent, content and truthful life and to live up to the Guru's teaching that, "Truth is high but higher still is Truthful living". It is in this context that every part of a Sikh's life is guided by the teachings and blessings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj. Consequently, every ceremony from birth to death is conducted in the Guru's presence...
