Journey of the Spirit - Part 2 of 2...

(Taken from Article)

...The Sikh way of life is an opportunity to make spiritual progress. The path to spiritual progression shows us how to control emotional attachment, lust, rage, greed and ego. These can only be controlled through leading a life imbued with Simran (meditation), Seva (Service), Sangat (Congregation and Good Company), which leads ultimately to the stage of Sant (Saint) and Sipahi (Soldier). In the journey of life, there is an opportunity to uplift the spirit. This entails leading a life of complete submission to the will of God and wondering what we can do for the perfect Guru. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj gives us the direction of how to submit:

ikv sicAwrw hoeIAY ikv kUVY qutY pwil ]
kiv sachiaaraa hoeeai kiv koorrai thuttai paal
So how can you become truthful? And how can the veil of illusion be torn away?

hukim rjweI clxw nwnk iliKAw nwil ]1]
hukam rajaaee chalanaa naanak likhiaa naal 1
O Nanak, it is written that you shall obey the Hukam of His Command, and walk in the Way of His Will. 1

Ultimately the Spirit is held accountable for deeds committed during its journey.
