A Sikh is a lifelong student, forever striving to attaain spirituality for the betterment of his or her life here and after death. A Sikh endeavours to fathom the spiritual depth of the scriptures through the process of learning, reciting and singing Gurubani. For learning to take place, there needs to be a student and a teacher. In the Sikh faith, the Sikh is forever the student and the Guru the teacher and the Guru is 'One who leads us from darkness (ignorance) to light (Knowledge)'.

If a hundred moons were to rise, and a thousand suns appeared,
even with such light, there would still be pitch darkness without the Guru. 2

It is only when we have a willing Sikh, and a perfect Guru, that we will have perfect learning. As Sikhs already have the perfect teacher, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj, the eternal Guru, they need to partake of the knowledge given to them by the Gurus and strive to become good Sikhs...
