...These verses are read from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj and sung at the wedding ceremony. The Sikh Gurus held high regard for the institution of marriage and they themselves entered into matrimony. They insisted that marriage is not merely a civil and social contract, but its highest and most ideal purpose is to fuse two souls into one, so that they may become spiritually inseparable. Marriage is regarded as a union of two mortal spirits to enable another singular spirit to come into existance thorught the union of the parent spirits. To bring another spirit, a 'spark' from God, into the world is a natural phenomenon. Abusing the sanctity of marriage is a sin. Hence, one must practice fidelity and remain faithful.
