...These verses are read from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj and sung at the wedding ceremony. The Sikh Gurus held high regard for the institution of marriage and they themselves entered into matrimony. They insisted that marriage is not merely a civil and social contract, but its highest and most ideal purpose is to fuse two souls into one, so that they may become spiritually inseparable. Marriage is regarded as a union of two mortal spirits to enable another singular spirit to come into existance thorught the union of the parent spirits. To bring another spirit, a 'spark' from God, into the world is a natural phenomenon. Abusing the sanctity of marriage is a sin. Hence, one must practice fidelity and remain faithful.

Pandit Rakesh Chaurasia (Bansuri) and Satyajit Talwalkar (Tabla).

This short video was taken in Nanded, India. The event was called "Sacred Music at Shankarrao Chavan Auditorium" and was taken on Friday 26th September 2008.

A famous name attached to this musician; Rakesh is the nephew and child prodigy of flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. The most accomplished of disciples of his uncle, he shows all the promise to carry the Chaurasia legacy to new heights.

Just like his legendary uncle, Rakesh possesses the right balance of strength and serenity, very critical factors for an exceptional flautist. His dexterous blowing technique coupled with his training of swar and tala exudes adeptly in his emotions through the hollow piece of bamboo. Rakesh has already globe trotted many times over, enthralling audiences at classical and semi-classical concerts in Japan, Australia, Europe, South Africa and USA. He is also an accomplished musician having recorded with most of the leading stalwarts of the Indian film industry.

And just like his illustrious uncle, he has composed music and worked with artists such as the Spanish guitarist Marco Salaun, Indian jazz pianist Louis Banks and percussionist Taufiq Qureshi, amongst others. VIRA, one of his most successful and highly acclaimed albums on which he was accompanied by Talvin Singh on the tabla, is released under the Sona Rupa label. Soon after its release, he and Talvin were invited to conclude the 24 hour live music broadcast to a worldwide audience on the BBC radio celebrating Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeths Silver Jubilee.

Despite his experimental work, Rakesh has never deviated from his main goal of becoming a full-fledged classical musician. The winner of Surmani (Mumbai) in 1998, he has regularly appeared in prominent festivals like St. Xaviers in Mumbai, Festivals of India in Russia, Japan and the USA. His growing maturity and status has brought him invitations to perform solo at major events within India and abroad such as the Festival of Saint-Denis in Paris with Talvin Singh, Leicester International Music Festival in England, Ashirwadh Sangeet Samaroh in Varanasi, Anubhuti in Mumbai where history was made when, for the first time ever, Rakesh, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pt Shivkumar Sharma and his son, Rahul, all performed together on stage accompanied by the legendary Ustad Zakir Hussain. Having also appeared in Gwalior, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Bhopal, he has had the distinction of a solo performance in front of a 2000 capacity audience during the prestigious Hindi Sahitya Sammelan in the city of Allahabad.

My Uncle, Jaswant Singh Bahra aged 61 has been playing bowls for two years. He was the first non-white player to join Cranbrook Park Bowling Club (East London). The club was established in 1912 and this year my uncle won two separate club competitions. His name has been engraved on the winners wall in the club house... "Auranzeb’s army attacked the haveli in Chamkaur, where Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji (tenth Guru of Sikhs) had taken refuge from his previous assaults. A grim battle took place, which resulted in the death of almost all of Guru Sahib’s men, including his two older sons. His younger sons and mother had been lost on the way to Chamkaur due to harsh weather conditions.
After resisting the onslaught of the tyrannical governement, Guru Gobind Singh ji slipped into the forests of Machhiwara. It is said that Guru Sahib was still in the highest of spirits, in chardi kala, even after losing all his loved ones and devotees. He rested in this forest overnight, and while Auranzeb’s army searched for him, he was rescued by his Muslim devotees in the morning. They disguised him as their pir, Sufi master, and lead him away from the hostile environment."

Just wanted to say good luck to all those doing exams, especially to Gurchetan Singh whos studying for his GCSE's, may god bless you all :)...

and congratulations to Gurmukh, Amandeep, Kirandeep Rajwant and Chamandeep, who have just completed their degree's, especially to Chamandeep who studied a certain degree to work in a hospital, he found it very hard... :)
